The State Revenue Office Victoria (“SRO”) has released a number of land tax measures to support local landlords and tenants affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and Victoria’s State of Emergency. Some of these relief measures include:
2020
- Land tax deferral for non-residential property;
- 25% land tax reduction and deferral for eligible landlords;
- Additional 25% land tax reduction for eligible landlords;
- 25% land tax reduction and deferral for owner-occupiers of commercial properties.
2021
- 25% land tax reduction and deferral for eligible landlords; and
- 25% land tax reduction and deferral for owner-occupiers of commercial properties.
2021 Land Tax Relief Application
Currently, the applications for 2021 Land Tax Relief are open for residential landlords and commercial landlords with multiple tenancies.
Residential landlords can submit an application for relief via My Land Tax portal on the SRO website if there is only a single tenancy on the property.
Applications for properties with multiple tenancies (whether residential or commercial) must be made via the Coronavirus Land Tax Relief Multiple Tenancy Properties SmartForm.
Other applications for 2021 Land Tax Relief will be open soon for:
- Commercial landlords of properties with a single tenancy – via My Land Tax portal on Monday 12 April 2021, and
- Commercial owner-occupiers – via My Land Tax portal on Monday 26 April 2021.
2020 Land Tax Relief Application
Please note that submissions for all 2020 Land Tax Relief applications, including residential landlords, commercial landlords and commercial owner-occupiers, will close at midnight on Wednesday 31 March 2021.
